BRA FITTING
Wearing the right bra size is just as important as choosing the right bra style. So, how long has it been since you've checked your bra size? Many factors affect our bust measurements, such as pregnancy, exercise, birth control pills and weight fluctuations. Did you know the average woman wears six different bra sizes throughout her life? All things considered, it will be worth your while to grab a tape measure and check your size.
We've looked at dozens of measuring systems, carefully tested them, and spoken to many experts in the industry. What we've learned is that no one measuring system gives an accurate result for every woman . So, what's a woman to do? Armed with a few guidelines and common sense, you can figure out your correct bra size.
If you own a bra that fits you well, that bra represents your correct bra size. That bra also represents a good brand for you. Every lingerie manufacturer has their unique take on fit. Like shoes, if you find a brand that fits and is comfortable, chances are their other styles will fit you as well. You should look to that brand first before venturing out to others.
How to determine your band size
- Measure around your rib cage directly underneath the bust.
- Hold the measuring tape straight around the body; it should rest snugly and smoothly against the skin.
- Add five inches to this measurement to determine the band size
(e.g. rib cage = 29 inches + 5 inches = 34 inches total).
How to determine your cup size
- Cup size is basically the difference between the rib cage and bust measurement.
- Measure around the fullest part of the bust, while wearing a bra, preferably unpadded. Holding the tape too snug will compress the bust and give a false measurement.
The difference between this measurement and the band size is your cup size:
- if difference is 1, cup size A
- if difference is 2, cup size B
- if difference is 3, cup size C
- if difference is 4, cup size D
- if difference is 5, cup size DD
For in-between measurements, always try sizes above and below and adjust the hooks to find a comfortable fit.
Identify the type of garment you need and the support level that adapts to your silhouette. If it's for a special occasion that requires a special shape you will need to customize your search. Your choices depend on your lifestyle.
As a general guide you should invest in: a seam-free bra (t-shirt bra), a demi cup or push-up bra, a wire-free (minimizing bra) and a sport bra.
Your bra will provide longer wear and support if you follow the proper washing and drying instructions on the care label. For machine-washable bras, attach hooks and eyes to avoid tangling, place bras in a lingerie bag and wash on the delicate cycle, in cool water with gentle detergent. Never put bras in a clothes dryer. Air dry them to prevent shrinkage, wire distortion and fraying.
VEDETTE Shapewear Size Chart

To measure properly for Shapewear, you'll need 3 basic measurements: waist, hips and panty size. Shapewear varies in control levels, all the way from "light control" to "extra firm control". Regardless of your control preference, you'll need to find your proper size to get just the right fit. Shapewear that is properly sized, creates smooth lines and a more toned appearance under clothes of all types, so get a pencil and your soft measure to find the right size for you. You may want to stand in front of a mirror to make sure the tape measure stays straight.
Step 1: Measuring your waist
Wrap the tape measure snugly, but without cinching, around the natural indentation or break at your waist. If you can't find this curve, bend to the side and the crease will show you where to measure. This is your waist measurement. Write it down, you'll need it in a moment.
Step 2: Measure your hips
Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your hips. Use the mirror to make sure the tape measure is straight completely around. The tape measure should be snug and parallel to the floor. Write this down as well.
Now that you have your waist, hip, and panty size, simply reference the chart above to determine the right Shapewear size for you.
Example: If your waist measured 28", and your hips 37", and your panty size is 6, your Shapwear size will be Medium.
